Security Should Not Be An Afterthought!

Marissa Shipley – July 4, 2024 – I had the pleasure of co-presenting at the SAP ANZ Tech Hub in Auckland last week.

My co-host Sharad Parasher (SAP) and I presented Security on the SAP Business Technology Platform. We workshopped with architects and developers on the integration of SAP BTP Security with SAP S/4HANA, and the roles, responsibilities, and best practices businesses should consider when securing their SAP environment.

The pace at which businesses are moving to the cloud is gaining momentum, with many adopting a Cloud-First approach. However, the absence of a robust security strategy and associated technologies at the forefront to address risks could leave your business exposed. A security strategy should set out policies that bring your people, processes, and technology together to create a holistic framework for secure business outcomes, forward-thinking conversations, and buy-in from your stakeholders. Security should not be an afterthought; it should be an agenda item in all planning conversations and be ready with a plan to act. Businesses and organisations that neglect or are slow to act may face consequences, such as monetary loss, damage to reputation, operational disruption, and not to mention legal implications.

Businesses are now operating in a fluid environment, making it critical to be equipped to operate with speed and agility to mitigate any evolving risk. Changing trends are indicating that security breaches and hacks are on the increase. In 2004, the most significant breach was at AOL, with 92 million screen names and email addresses sold to spammers. This year, 2024 the most significant breach to date has been at Ticketmaster, with 560 million records lost, stealing names, addresses, phone numbers and partial credit card details from Ticketmaster customers worldwide. So Why is a Security Solution Built on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) So Important?

SAP BTP is the platform for SAP cloud products and solutions that also allows the integration of non-SAP products in a secure, supported environment. Offerings are continuously being improved on SAP BTP with automated processes and innovation to stay ahead of threats.

As organisations transition from ECC to S/4HANA and seek a platform for innovation and growth, ensuring the platform’s security becomes paramount. This is where CERPASS®, uniquely built on SAP BTP, stands out, providing enhanced security and support.

Certified by SAP®, CERPASS®, with its seamless integration capabilities, ensures data consistency and reduces manual effort. It’s a solution that eliminates GRC frustration and streamlines processes, giving you confidence in its compatibility with your existing systems.

Whether you are currently using ECC or S/4, CERPASS® offers a significant time advantage. You can be up and running with a clear view of your access risk position in just a few hours. I have personally experienced this to be 98.5% faster than other solutions.

EBOS MedTech faced the challenge of having a solution that could integrate with S/4 without compromising on security. They found their solution in CERPASS®, a unique offering that is simple, easy to use, and seamlessly integrates with SAP BTP. This allowed them to install, analyse, and complete a security redesign without the need for additional resources.

“The team at CompliantERP seamlessly integrated CERPASS®, ensuring a smooth transition and maintaining our security framework to meet our audit requirements. This allowed our employees to continue their work without disruption from day one. With CERPASS® built on SAP BTP, we gained extra confidence knowing SAP backed it.”
